The arrival of summer means more days at the pool, family get-togethers, picnics and outdoor activities. It’s a great time where family and friends meet, have fun and enjoy delicious foods together. At summer time, there are a lot of delicious foods to grill up plus all the other tasty sides, desserts and drinks which round out the meal. However make sure that you have the following foods in your menu for summer…

 

Sweet potatoes

According to nutritionists, a sweet potato has a potent antioxidant found in them that helps in shielding our hearts, you can either take it raw or you just chunk it up into one inch squares, then you roast them at high heat of 400 degrees for only 30 to 45 minutes. After they are cooked you can serve it with roasted turkey or chicken or as a vegetarian meal.

Salmon or any other fish

Salmon and other fish such as mackerel and sardines are healthy for the human body. They contain B Vitamins, particularly those that are well known for fighting stress the Vitamin B12 and Vitamin B6. They also contain a good amount of omega-3- fatty acids, that is essential for our body because it lowers the risks of irregular heartbeat and decreases the plague that builds up in the arteries.

Crunchy red cabbage

It is a real multi-tasker food. It has the potential of protecting against heart diseases and cancer and it never goes out of the season. It is said to be a good source of vitamin C and lowers cholesterol levels.

Who doesn’t love a piece of chocolate? Especially during the summer season as you go round the beach. Dark chocolate with at least 85% of cocoa is not only a stress releaser but also a healthy food too. Some recent studies showed that, if you eat 6 ounces of chocolate each day, you are likely to cut down all the bad cholesterol in your body. Cocoa contains phenols antiseptic that reduces the risk of heart disease.

Asparagus

It contains healthy anti-inflammatory nutrients such as vitamin C and D. It has very low calorie levels and it is very quick to cook.

Almonds

Almonds contain all fibers that are crucial for your heart. They also contain a high level of Omega-3 fatty acids that are very essential to the heart.

Beans

They are an excellent source of protein with the exemption of unhealthy fats. The study showed that, if you take beans four times a week, you will have 22% lower risk of diseases compared to those people who consume beans less than once per week.
